Meditation/mindfulness practices are tools that proactive parents can offer their children for reducing stress and creating a more successful life. Meditation and mindfulness skills are a recognized as an evidence-based method for helping children relax and refocus. These tools are effective for children of all stripes, including those dealing with sleep challenges, anxiety, fears, OCD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, perfectionism, or just plain old “childhood.”
The Kids Meditation trainings are based on the Connected Kids program, supported by the extensive meditation and mindfulness experience of the facilitator.
The practice of Meditation has been handed down for thousands of years by the great sages and teachers of the East. Meditation calms and stabilizes the mind, strengthens the body and creates a sense of peace and stillness.
Many research studies have shown that learning to meditate has far-reaching health benefits. For example, meditation helps us cope with stress, which is the cause of many illnesses.
Tisa McGraw has been training, studying and practicing Meditation since 2000. This training includes certification from Shambhala International to teach meditation & basic Buddhist studies. She attended seminary in 2007 and is a senior student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, leader of the Shambhala Buddhist lineage.
- Mindfulness Meditation – also known as Shamatha.
- Insight Meditation – also known as Vipassana.
You are welcome to bring cushions, zafus or seiza benches, if you have them. There is no need to sit in lotus position, you may also sit in a chair.
